{"id":162,"date":"2010-10-29T19:20:54","date_gmt":"2010-10-29T19:20:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.halepassage.org\/?p=162"},"modified":"2010-10-29T20:55:01","modified_gmt":"2010-10-29T20:55:01","slug":"i-am-very-afraid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.halepassage.org\/?p=162","title":{"rendered":"We are doomed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Republicans seem poised to win control of at least one house of Congress this election.\u00c2\u00a0 Several economists I trust (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/10\/29\/opinion\/29krugman.html?hp\" target=\"_blank\">Paul Krugman<\/a>, Mark Thoma, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ft.com\/cms\/s\/0\/dd140d16-e2c2-11df-8a58-00144feabdc0.html\" target=\"_blank\">Nouriel Roubini<\/a> to name three) see this as a true economic disaster, and I can&#8217;t fault their arguments.\u00c2\u00a0 We are currently growing too slowly (<a href=\"http:\/\/economistsview.typepad.com\/economistsview\/2010\/10\/real-gdp-grows-at-2-percent-in-the-third-quarter.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.halepassage.org\/?p=140\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>) to get back to normal employment in fewer than 5 years, and the only entity that can supply the stimulus needed to speed up this return \u00e2\u20ac\u201d the US Government \u00e2\u20ac\u201d will soon be paralyzed.\u00c2\u00a0 Republicans are motivated by what Roubini calls &#8220;voodoo economics, the economic equivalent of creationism&#8221;.\u00c2\u00a0 And, according to Sen.
